Brian Jones: Introduction
About Me:
Brian Jones
32 Myers Avenue, BRADFORD, West Riding of Yorkshire, BD2 4ET

Educated at Bradford Grammar School (1964-1969) and, upon leaving, employed at GEC Machines Ltd/English Electric, where I gained qualification as a Mechanical Engineering Technician. I then left to take up employment in the sales departments of Frank Wigglesworth and Company Limited, and then Wellman Bibby Limited, in each case selling power transmission products.

At present, apart from my literary interests, I am a genealogist working in the Yorkshire area. Also I am actively involved in the running of Bearly There Yorkshire, an online shop selling collectible and other teddy bears.

From the mid-1970s I produced regular columns and other features for local newspapers, and several general interest magazines, on the subjects of astronomy and space exploration. I also started, with a colleague, the Bradford Astronomical Society, in 1976 and was Secretary of the Society until the early-1990s. In addition to my secretarial duties I edited the Bradford Astronomical Society quarterly journal.

During the 1980s I held the post of Publications Secretary for the Federation of Astronomical Societies which involved the compilation and production of their annual Handbook for Astronomical Societies. In addition I was News Circular Editor for the Junior Astronomical Society. This involved the compilation and publication of a regular news circular for society members which detailed current astronomical and space related events.

In 1985 left engineering to take up writing and broadcasting on astronomy and space exploration on a full-time basis.
